TIME IS (NOT) MONEY
Generative art
Continuing with the food experience Time is (not) money, we sought to capture a participant's distorted perception of time during the 30-minute food experience. To achieve this, we recorded close-up videos of each participant interacting with the food. During the experiment, participants heard six audio cues spread randomly throughout a 30-minute session. These cues prompted them to record their estimate of how much time had passed since the previous cue, providing data about their perception of time. From the footage recorded and the data providad, a special effect called "slit-scan" was generated using Processing software. This technique condenses the entire 30-minute experience into a single image, visually distorting the video the same way the participants' perception of time was warped.
The resulting image, curves to mimic the shape of the plates used in the experience. This curved form evokes the "hoop of Aion," one of the Greek gods of time. Aion is the representation of circular time, of all the things that are always there. Is not born, does not die, it is the time of life and the eternal return of Nietzsche. The circle present across all the experience and the results of it, is a symbolic representation of Aion, of cyclical time and the ever-changing nature of our perception.
