BARDELONA

Bardelona is a trolley-bar design specifically for Ricardo Bonnet's Gomis house. Located on the outskirts of the city of Barcelona in front of the sea, the Gomis house, also known as La Ricarda, was built and designed following a series of conversations by letter between the Gomis-Bertrand family and the Catalan architect Antoni Bonet Castellana. This collaboration resulted in a harmonious design in constant dialogue with its surroundings. The different transparencies and translucent materials, together with the carefully designed furniture, generate a delicate sensation of continuity between all the different parts of the house.

We were then asked to choose a piece of furniture to design in context with La Ricarda.  This design did not have to be from the historical period of the house in order to fit in with it. It had to be innovative but maintain the essence of different formal, constructive and sensitive elements of the house. The chosen object was the bar cart.

Our aim was to create a powerful design that would produce a strong emotional response through physical contact, colour and form. For this reason we decided to look for a material that embodied these concepts. That material was elastic textile tape. By covering the entire piece and hiding the inside of the carrobar, we forced the user to adopt an active attitude towards the product. The contents hidden inside must be discovered and extracted. The oblique arrangement of the ribbons creates a moire effect that partially reveals the interior depending on the viewer's point of view. All this combined with the power of the red colour and the simple formal design of the carrobar, creates a product that stimulates the senses.
